Changing Eyes Color (For Dark Eyes)

blueeye (1K)
In my previous tutorial How to change eyes color I have shown you how to change eyes color using Photoshop in simple steps now let's move to a slightely more advanced technique to change eyes color specially the dark eyes which are more difficult to change.
  1. Open the image in Photoshop.
  2. Right click on the background layer and choose "Duplicate layer".
  3. Press Q to enter Quick mask mode, this enables us to make a much better selection than using a Marquee tool.
  4. Choose Brush tool (B) and paint the left eye's iris making sure the foreground color is black (Remember, you can always press (X) to switch foreground and background colors). Notice the red color this is the default mask color.
  5. You can click ([) or (]) keys to control the brush size and press (X) to reverse the Background and Foreground colors, this will work just like the eraser for the mask, click (X) again to continue.
  6. Do the same for the right eye iris till you see red color covering the iris area only.

  7. Press (Q) again to exit the Quick mask mode, now you should see the selections but reversed therefore press Ctrl+Shift +I to reverse the selection.
  8. You should see a good selection for eyes iris, if you think you need more adjustments for the selection press (Q) and do the same again.
  9. Because the baby's eyes are dark colored we need to brighten the color to get better results if we want to change the color into a light color like green or blue so click "Create new fill or adjustment layer", Choose "Levels..." and drag the white arrow to the left. I like this method more than using the Dodge tool because it gives better results.

  10. Choose the Burn tool (O) and use it on the iris center where the pupil should be, you may use it on the edges of the iris too and remember, you can change the Exposure to get darker or lighter color.
  11. Open any picture that has the eyes color that you like to change the eyes in your image to, this will help you a lot to get more realistic color. You can search Google for the image you like.
  12. Choose the Eyedropper tool (I) and click the bright area of the iris in the image you have just opened.
  13. If you can't see the selection you have made, press Ctrl while clicking "Layer mask thumbnail" to get your selection back.
  14. Click "Create new fill or adjustment layer" and choose "Hue/Saturation" Make sure Colorize and Preview are checked and adjust the sliders till you get the color that you like.

i find this tutorial a little difficult. I am doing everything it says, but its not doing what it should do. On step 9, i get stuck. Instead of making the iris light, and makes my whole picture light.
