Turning off your computer automatically is so easy using a free program called Handy Tweakers. Among many features, there is a Turn Off Tool which enables you to specify the exact time that you want to turn off your computer so you don't have to stay awake or keep your computer running all night.
  1. Download Handy Tweakers if you don't have it.
  2. Run Handy Tweakers.
  3. Click the tab called Turn Off Tool.
  4. Choose the action that you want to perform either Shut down, Restart, Log off or Hibernate.

  5. If you want to turn off your computer after a specified time - like after finishing a download - choose "Execute after" option then type how many hours and minutes you want to turn off your computer after in this format HH:MM meaning, if you want to turn off your computer after 2 hours and 30 minutes then type: 02:30. You can type up to 99 hours.
  6. If you want to turn off your computer at a specified date and time then choose the "Execute at" option, type the desired date and time directly or click the down arrow and choose the desired date. You can choose any date and time up to one year.

  8. In the Options tab you can choose "Show Warning" so Handy Tweakers will show a warning one minute before the execution in a top most window so you can cancel the whole operation if you like, also you have the "Force Shutdown" option which terminates any program that refuses the shut down operation.

I downloaded Handy Tweakers and thank you. The actions of the program appear to be date-specified, i.e. for each turn-off or turn-on a particular date/time needs to be set. Is it possible to enable the turn-on/turn-off schedule to automatically repeat every 24 hour period until modified or disabled. The reason: I am attempting to have the computer turn on each and every early morning to receive any program updates that may be available for download when download traffic is light.

After trying the HandyTweakers, I find it very usefull. When I start my computer in the morning, Iactivate HandyTweaker and inputed 12hours to run. At exactly 12 hours, my computer shut off automatically. Iactivate the HandyTweakers everyday in the morning. I give rate the utility 4Stars (4*) for simplicity and use. Thank you very much. joseps :)
